The Season of Giving: Helping Children and Families Feel Safe, Warm and Hopeful
November marks the beginning of the holiday season when we start thinking about family, gratitude, and giving to others.
It is a season filled with warm memories, gatherings around the table, and the joy of helping those who may need a little extra support.
But for some families, the holiday season can also bring added stress.
In Wisconsin, November reminds us that winter is coming. The temperatures are dropping, the days are getting shorter, and before long, we will be facing snow, ice, and freezing temperatures.
For a family experiencing housing insecurity, the arrival of winter can bring very real concerns.
Where will we stay?
How will we keep the children warm?
Will there be enough food?
How will we make it through the winter?
No child should have to worry about whether they will have a warm and safe place to sleep.
No parent or caregiver should have to choose between keeping their family warm and putting food on the table.
Sometimes, Giving Means Helping a Family Feel Safe
At Love You, Kid!, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow up in a happy, healthy, safe, and nurturing environment.
But helping children often means helping the families around them.
That is why Love You, Kid! supports organizations that work directly with children and families facing difficult circumstances, including agencies that help families experiencing housing insecurity.
These organizations provide more than services.
They provide hope, stability, and a helping hand when families need it most.
When an organization helps a family find safe housing, provides resources for basic needs, or connects parents and caregivers with the support they need, the impact reaches far beyond that moment.
It reaches the children.
A warm and safe home can give a child the chance to sleep peacefully.
A reliable meal can mean a child doesn’t have to worry about being hungry.
A supportive adult can help a child feel that someone cares.
And stability can give a child the freedom to do something every child should have the opportunity to do:
Dream about the future.
The Holidays Should Be About Hope Not Worry
The holiday season can be stressful for any family.
There are gifts to buy, meals to prepare, gatherings to attend, and countless expenses that seem to appear all at once.
For families already struggling with housing insecurity, those pressures can feel overwhelming.
Staying warm and having enough to eat should not be another holiday stressor.
This is where communities can make a difference.
We can donate.
We can volunteer.
We can support local organizations that are helping families.
We can share resources.
We can check on a neighbor.
We can offer kindness.
And we can remember that sometimes the greatest gift we can give is simply helping someone feel that they are not facing a difficult season alone.
When We Give Together, Children Benefit
Love You, Kid supports organizations that are already on the front lines, helping children and families navigate challenging circumstances.
Through our support of these organizations, we help extend their reach and strengthen the important work they are doing in their communities.
That’s what Better the Lives of Children means to us.
It means recognizing that children are connected to the families and communities around them.
It means understanding that when we help a parent find stability, we can also help their child.
When we help a family find warmth and safety, we can help create a better environment for a child to grow.
And when we come together as a community, even small acts of generosity can become something much bigger.
This November, Let’s Give What Matters
As we enter this season of giving, we invite you to look beyond the presents.
Think about the things every child needs:
A safe place to sleep.
A warm place to live.
Enough food to eat.
Someone who cares.
A reason to hope.
Those are gifts that can make a lasting difference.
This holiday season let’s come together to support the organizations that are helping children and families through difficult times.
Let’s make sure that warmth, safety, food, and shelter aren’t luxuries.
Let’s make sure families know they are not alone.
And let’s remember that when we give to help a family today, we may be helping a child build a better tomorrow.
Because when we come together to help those who need it most, we are doing more than giving.
We are helping to Better the Lives of Children.
That is the heart of Love You, Kid!
