Domestic Violence Awareness Month: How Love You, Kid and Women & Children’s Horizons Are Building Safer Futures for Children

Domestic Violence Awareness Month: Helping Create Safer Futures for Children

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the impact of domestic violence on individuals, families, and communities—and to recognize the organizations working every day to create safer futures.

At Love You, Kid, our mission is simple: To Better the Lives of Children. We support organizations whose work helps children and families find safety, stability, and hope.

That is why Love You, Kid is proud to support Women and Children’s Horizons (WCH) in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Why Domestic Violence Awareness Matters

Domestic violence affects the entire family. Children who live with violence may experience fear, anxiety, and uncertainty, even when they are not directly harmed.

Every child deserves to grow up in an environment where they feel safe, supported, valued, and loved.

That belief has been at the heart of Love You, Kid since the very beginning.

A Dream That Began in 1977

In 1977, Love You, Kid founder Mark Steinberg was a college student participating in a university-sponsored Psychology program. He visited homes of children at high risk for abuse or neglect, identifying risk factors and recommending ways families could create protective and safer environments.

The experience stayed with him.

Mark’s dream of creating a nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of abused and neglected children eventually became Love You, Kid! Inc.

Nearly five decades later, that dream continues to guide our work and our mission To Better the Lives of Children.

Why We Support Women and Children’s Horizons

Founded in 1976, Women and Children’s Horizons is Wisconsin’s oldest incorporated shelter and services provider for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. WCH provides shelter, advocacy, education, support, and healing services to survivors, their families, and their children.

Their work aligns closely with our belief that children are affected by domestic violence, too.

When we support Women and Children’s Horizons, we are supporting an organization that helps create safer environments for children and families and provides a path toward healing and a healthier future.

Supporting children also means supporting the families and communities around them.

Building Safer Futures for Children

Women and Children’s Horizons works not only to respond to domestic and sexual violence, but also to promote education, advocacy, healing, collaboration, and meaningful social change.

This work matters because creating safer communities helps create brighter futures for children.

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we encourage everyone to learn more, support survivors, and recognize the organizations working to make a difference.

At Love You, Kid, we believe that when we help create safer families and stronger communities, we help Better the Lives of Children.

Together, We Can Better the Lives of Children.
