McLit- Marathon County Literacy
It can be argued that there is no skill more important for a child than mastering reading. Reading provides a lifetime of pleasure that can’t be duplicated by other activities. In addition, there are thousands of studies that cite how important reading is to academic success. In recognition of September being National Literacy month, let me introduce you to the nonprofit McLit-Marathon County Literacy, which is another organization supported by Love You,Kid!
Marathon County Literacy Council (MCLC) was founded in October,1997. The Council represented a cross-section of literacy providers, educators, and interested community members throughout Marathon County.
Fast forward to August 2002 and you will find MCLC had established a new, more centrally – located office in the downtown Wausau library. This helped the Council expand its tutor base, update its tracking of student outcomes and become more accessible to the community. The Council then was combined with the Wood County Literacy Council to form the Central Wisconsin Literacy Council in 2011.
Fast forward again to 2017, the Marathon County Literacy Council re-established itself as the new non-profit McLit – Marathon County Literacy. In June 2021, Marathon County Literacy celebrated its new, centrally located space in downtown Wausau. This new space has allowed McLit-Marathon County Literacy to grow and reach out to hundreds of students.
Love You, Kid! supports McLit’s Mission of improving quality of life through literacy and its Vision to be an organization that provides educational information and resources to everyone through the promotion of literacy programs, and support those in need by mentoring, tutoring, teaching and coaching.
Love You, Kid! recognizes the valuable literacy skills that McLit- Marathon County Literacy provides to our kids and proudly supports it.
